NORFOLK, VA- ODU sophomore Chris Baker (Chesapeake, VA.) drove in four runs, but Liberty(19-9) outslugged the Monarchs, 12-9 Tuesday evening. There were 36 base hits in the game as Liberty had 21 and ODU 15.
Baker, who hit his first homerun of the season went four-for-five on the day and scored twice. Jake McAloose and Chris Buss both had three hits, while Donnie Corsner had two for ODU who falls to 13-20.
The Flames jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first led by a three-run double by Nathan Thompson and a two-run homer by Jeff Jefferson.
The Monarchs scored five in the sixth inning on an RBI hit from Jake McAloose(Virginia Beach, Va.) and a three-run homer by Chris Baker.McAloose's hit drove home Brandon Shelton (Chesapeake, Va.). McAloose then scored on a Liberty throwing error and after Edgar Hernandez(Luquillo, Puerto Rico) and Chris Buss (Rosemount, MN.) reached base, Baker slammed his first homerun of the season.
ODU scored three more in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run singled by Buss which scored DonnieCosner (Virginia Beach, Va.) and pinch hitter Austin McGowan (Midlothian, Va.). Chris Baker finished ODU's scoring with and RBI single to bring home McAloose.
Nathan Thompson led the Flames with three RBI, while Curran Redal, Doug Bream, Tyler Bream and PJ Jimenez each had three hits for Liberty.Cameron Giannini pitched five innings allowing one run on fiveHits for his second win of the season.
The Monarchs return to action this weekend when the travel to Fairfax, Va. For a three-game CAA seriesagainst the Patriots of George Mason. Friday's game is at 3 p.m.
