WILLISAMSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Lisa Bernardini dished out a game-high three assists and senior Ashley Kellogg posted two goals, but it wasn't enough as Old Dominion fell at No. 20 William & Mary, 18-7, Wednesday evening in both squads regular season finale.
Old Dominion's season ends with the Lady Monarchs posting a 3-12 overall record and a 1-6 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. William & Mary (10-7, 4-3) will enter the CAA Tournament as the No. 4 seed and face No. 1 seed and host James Madison.
Kellogg ends her stellar Lady Monarch career with 127 goals and 151 points. Kellogg's numbers place her fourth all-time at ODU in both goals scored and points totaled.
Bernardini closes a remarkable sophomore campaign with a team-high 57 points and team-best 25 assists. Her assist total is the fourth most ever in a season at ODU and her 56 points rank as the eighth best season all-time.
Old Dominion dominated the first 10 minutes of play, maintaining possession of the ball and taking seven of the first 10 shots. A Sarah Wright goal, her 12th of the year, off a Bernardini feed at the 19:47 mark earned the Lady Monarchs an early 1-0 lead.
William & Mary took over from that point on though, scoring the next nine goals over a 12:15 span. Mary Zulty, Ashley Holofcener and Katherine Rees each had two goals for the Tribe during the run.
The Lady Monarchs stopped the W&M spurt with consecutive goals from Kellogg, but a late goal from Kyrstin Mackrides gave the Tribe a 10-3 halftime lead.
The second period started almost exactly the same as the first, with ODU getting off seven of the first 10 shots to open the half once again. This time however, the Lady Monarchs cashed in the shot advantage with two scores. Senior Nicole McMahon and sophomore Rebecca Reymann each tallied goals to cut the Tribe lead to 10-5 at the 25:09 mark.
William & Mary used another run though to break the game open. The Tribe tallied the games next seven goals to go up 17-5 with 8:40 remaining.
ODU closed the game strong as sophomore Mary Bermingham and freshman Meredith Rogers each posted their first career goals.
