NORFOLK, VA--Towson's Chris Wychock singled home Nick Natoli in the top of the 12th to defeat Old Dominion, 6-5 in a Colonial Athletic Association game. ODU is 17-26/5-9 while Towson is 13-28/7-10.
The Monarchs tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run, two-out homerby sophomore firstbaseman Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.). Baker also doubled home tworuns in the first inning.
ODU's run in the fifth came on a solo homer by senior thirdbaseman Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.), his team leading sixth of the season.
Towson's lead-off hitter Ben Winter along with Nick Natoli, Chris Wychock and Steve Rice each had three hits on the day. Winter scored three times, as he hit a solo homer in the third inning, doubled and scored on Natoli's single in the ninth which put the Tigers up, 5-3 before ODU's Baker homered in the bottom of the ninth to tie it. The Tigers also got a two-run homer from Steve Rice in the sixth inning.
ODU was led by Chris Baker with three hits and four RBI, while Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va.) and catcher Edgar Hernandez (Puerto Rico) both had two hits for the Monarchs. Baker is now hitting .349 on the season with a team best 35 RBI.
The 12 innings is the most for ODU since last year's 11 inning game at VMI. The longest game in ODU history was the 18 inning contest on May 19, 2006 at Towson.
The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
