NORFOLK, VA--The University of Maryland pounded out 19 hits to defeat Old Dominion, 14-9 Tuesday night. The Terps are 15-24, while ODU is 16-25.
Maryland's righthanded starter, Blair Delean held the Monarchs hitless until one out in the seventh when Josh Wright tripled to left center to knock in Edgar Hernandez for the Monarchs first run. Brandon Shelton and Donnie Corsner also drove in runs in that inning for ODU .
ODU scored three more runs in the eighth inning on RBI hits from Chris Baker, Kenny Stoneback andEdgar Hernandez. That made the score 9-6, but Maryland would score fiveruns in the top of the ninth to go up 14-6.
In the ninth John Malbon slammed a pinch hit homer with Austin Wright and Jake McAloose aboard.
Delean fanned eight with four walks, one hit and two runs allowed in 6.1 innings of work for Maryland and improvedHis record to 2-1. Brandon Padula and Dan Genzler each had three hits for the Terps.
The Monarchs return to action on Friday night when they host the Towson Tigers in the first of a three-gameCAA series. Friday night's game will be "Flood The Bud" night as ODU attempts to break the school's single gameAttendance mark of 2,125 set in 1984 against Virginia Tech.
