Morrell Ties For 13th At CAA Championships

HOT SPRINGS, VA--ODU freshman Samantha Morrell fired a 77 today to finish with a 217 for a 13th place tie at the Colonial Athletic AssociationWomen's Golf Championships. Morrell, a second team All-CAA selection had four birdies on the day.

As a team, ODU finished seventh with a 989 score. Emma Gilmore tied for 28th and Connie Farmer tied for 32nd at 251.43rd ranked Georgia State won their third CAA Women's Golf Championship since joining in 2006 on Sunday afternoon at The Homestead Old Course. The Panthers completed the three-day event with a score of 923. The Panthers were followed by James Madison (932) in second, UNC Wilmington (940) in third and William & Mary (951) in fourth. Xavier wrapped up the tournament in fifth place with a team score of 954 and Richmond (968) finished sixth. Old Dominion (989), Dayton (1,006), Towson (1,031) and Hofstra (1,048) rounded out the team scoring at the 2010 championship.

GSU's Charlotte Lorentzen received meadlists honors after carding a tournament-low 69 in the final round. She was also named the tournament Most Outstanding Player and joined JMU's Nicole Sakamoto & Catrin Gunnarsson, UNCW's Carmen Perez-Narbon and William & Mary's Morgan Stepanek on the All-Tournament team.

Lorentzen finished the tournament 1-over par after shooting 75-73-69--217 at the Old Course. She enters the CAA record books with her round of 69 and the third lowest individual overall score of 1-over par. Sakamoto completed the tournament with a score of 74-76-77--227 (+11) for second place, while Perez-Narbon finished in third place carding 74-75-78--228 (+12). Gunnarsson and Stepanek completed the three-day tournament tied for fourth place. Gunnarsson scored 76-74-79--229 (+13), while Stepanek carded 77-77-75--229 (+13).
