Baker Leads ODU With Four Hits In 11-6 Loss At W&M

WILLIAMSBURG, VA--Tadd Bower knocked in three runs as the Tribe of William and Mary defeated Old Dominion Friday night, 11-6. ODU is 16-22/4-6, and W&M is 19-14/4-6.

Both starting pitchers, Matt Davenport of William and Mary and ODU's Kyle Hald ranked Came in to the game as the CAA's top two pitchers with the lowest earned run average.

Chris Baker led ODU with four hits in five at-bats. He also knocked in two runs. Chris Buss added two hits for the Monarchs.

ODU broke out first with two runs in the first inning. Jake McAloose sacrifice fly scored Donnie Corsner. After a Chris Baker single, Chris Buss followed with a double to score Baker from first.

The Tribe came back in the second. After back-to-back two out walks, Chris Forsten doubled down the leftfield line, scoring Jensen and Williams to tie the game at 2-2.

In the fourth W&M took the lead on Ryan Brown's double which scored Derek Lowe. Brown would later scored from third on a wild pitch. Tadd Bower then tripled home Derrick Osteen to make it 5-2.

In the ODU fifth Chris Baker doubled home Edgar Hernandez, butW&M added another run in the sixth on a Bower RBI single which scored Brown.

ODU scored two in the seventh on an RBI single by Chris Baker and groundout RBI by Josh Wright.

William and Mary erupted for five runs in the bottom of the eighth highlighted by a two-run single by Stephen Arcure.

The Monarchs loaded the bases in the ninth, but managed only one run when Nate Hartman reached on a fielder's choice and Chris Baker scored. The Monarchs left 12 runners on base.

The second game of the series is 4 p.m. on Saturday at Plumeri Park.
