NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion (16-21) sophomore Josh Wright (Bridgewater, Va.) knocked in five runs to lead the Monarchs to a 20-5 victory over crosstown rival Norfolk State (11-13-1) Tuesday evening at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
Wright had three hits, including a three-run home run in the third inning with Chris Buss (Rosemount, MN.) and Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.) aboard. He also doubled home two runs in the eighth inning.
Chris Baker had three hits and three RBI on the night, and sophomore Kenny Stoneback (ColonialHeights, Va.) had three hits and two RBI.
Chris Buss knocked in two runs on two hits and Nathan Hartman had two hits on the evening. In all,The Monarchs pounded out 16 hits on the night along with 12 walks issued by NSU pitchers.
The Spartans were led by Cameron Parsons, Juan Herrera and Ryan Wiggins each with two hits.
John Rasberry knocked in two runs for the Spartans with a double in the fifth and a bases loadedwalk in the eighth. Parsons and Wiggins also knocked in a run each.
ODU Sophomore Phil McCarthy (Chesapeake, Va.) picked up the win in relief as he fanned a career highseven batters in 3.1 innings worth of work.
The Monarchs return to CAA action this weekend with a three-game series at William and MaryBeginning Friday at 7 p.m.
