FARMVILLE, Va. - Sophomore Lisa Bernardini scored a career-high five goals, including the game-winner with 23 seconds remaining to seal a 16-15 Old Dominion come-from-behind victory over Longwood Wednesday evening.

The Lady Monarchs (2-2) won their second consecutive game despite trailing by as many as six goals in the first half.

Bernardini added three assists to her five goals, giving her a career-high eight points. The sophomore has now netted 10 goals and dished out 10 assists in her last three games.

Senior's Ashley Kellogg and Nicole McMahon tallied four goals each to ignite a potent ODU offensive attack that scored a season-high 16 goals.

Longwood (3-5) controlled play for much of the first half, scoring six of the first seven goals. A Carlie Nethken free-position goal with 3:39 left in the opening stanza gave the Lancers a six-goal advantage (9-3).

ODU battled back in the second half, scoring four of the first five goals and eight of the first 10 to take a 15-13 lead with 6:43 remaining in the game.

Longwood did not go away though, scoring on consecutive free-position attempts to tie the game with just over two minutes remaining.

With possession and 1:31 on the clock, Longwood's Karli Brentlinger blasted a low shot at ODU goalkeeper Sarah Geary, but she made the remarkable save to give the Lady Monarchs another offensive possession.

ODU took advantage as Bernardini was fouled in the crease and converted the free-position attempt to give the Lady Monarchs a 16-15 lead with only 23 second on the clock.

Old Dominion won the ensuing draw control, but a turnover gave the Lancers one last shot. Brentlinger got off a shot from the top of the circle but it sailed wide as time expired.

The Lady Monarchs will be looking for their third consecutive win Saturday as they return to the Powhatan Sports Complex to host Virginia Tech at 1 p.m.
