NORFOLK, VA--Junior outfielder Nathan Hartman (Orlando, FL.) drove in four runs to lead the Monarchs (2-0) to a 7-5 Victory over Fordham Saturday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
The Rams took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by P.J. Como and RBI single by Chris Walker.
ODU rallied in the third with three runs on only one hit as Joe Velleggia drove in a run afterbeing hit by a pitch with the base loaded, Josh Wright's infield hit plated Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va. ) and Hartman's misplayed fly to left scored Edgar Hernandez (Puerto Rico).
Hartman came back in the fourth with a two-run single which scored Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, VA.) and Edgar Hernandez. His fourth and final RBI on the day came in the eight with a sacrifice fly to score Corsner. Corsner also knocked in Chris Buss (Rosemount, MN.) with a double in that inning. Buss had two hits on the day for ODU.
Sophomore Ben Tomchick (Virginia Beach, Va.) who earned CAA All-Rookie honors last year picked up the win and senior Cory Toth (Chincoteague, VA.) got the save.
Fordham got 12 hits on the day, but left 11 runners stranded.The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
