NORFOLK, Va. -- The Lady Monarchs play host to Shaw University in tonight's exhibition finale as they prepare to PACK THE HOUSE for the regular season opener this Friday against #2 Stanford. Tip is at 7:00 p.m. as ODU takes on the Bears in the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
This will be the final pre-season look at the Lady Monarchs before the regular season begins on Friday against the Cardinal. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 94.1 FM with play-by-play from Tony Mercurio and color analysis from Susan Montgomery. Fans can also tune into Monarch TV for live video coverage simulcast with the radio play-by-play through odusports.com.
Head coach Wendy Larry will send her squad to the hardwood in the final tune-up, led by juniors Jasmine Parker and Shadasia Green. In the first exhibition game, against Chowan, Green scored 16 points and added nine rebounds to finish just shy of a double-double.
Newcomers Tia Lewis and Kquanise Byrd also scored in double figures with 11 and 12 points respectively. Sophomore center Mairi Bucan grabbed eight rebounds and led the team in blocked shots with a pair, as well as adding six points in the contest.
Shaw was picked to finish second in the CIAA West in the 2009-10 preseason and is led by returning guard Tanisha McGaughey (Norfolk, Va.). McGaughey averaged 10.6 ppg last season, adding 5.1 rpg and 51 total assists.
The game tips at 7:00 p.m. at the Ted with doors opening at 6:00 p.m.
PACK THE HOUSE: Old Dominion is striving to break the all-time attendace record for women's hoops as a part of the NCAA's 'Pack the House Challenge' this Friday. All tickets have been reduced to $5 for the game against second-ranked Stanford and fans are encouraged to "blue-out" the Ted in support of the Lady Monarchs.
