OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Senior Kathleen Shea (Elizaville, N.Y.) scored just 23 seconds into overtime to lift No. 12 Old Dominion past Towson in a Colonial Athletic Association field hockey game Sunday afternoon at Stevenson U. Field.

ODU got significant contributions from sophomore Kathryn Kirk (Lititz, Pa.), who scored a goal and assisted on Shea's game-winner. Junior Stephanie Kratzer (Lititz, Pa.) also picked up an assist for the Lady Monarchs.

Old Dominion, which has won four of its last five games, improve to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in league play. Towson drops to 3-8 on the year and 0-4 in CAA action.

Kirk got ODU on the board early, netting her team-high fifth goal of the season just over six minutes into the game. Kirk took a pass from Kratzer and blasted a shot from the nearside to the far post.

Towson responded before the half as Blythe Mackie notched her first goal of the season to pull the game even. With neither team scoring in the second half the game went into overtime, ODU's fourth overtime contest this season.

Shea wasted little time in the extra stanza, tallying her third goal of the season on ODU's first possession. Old Dominion finished the game with a 13-4 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corners. The Lady Monarchs are now 9-0 all-time against the Tigers.

Old Dominion returns home next weekend for a pair of conference games. The Lady Monarchs will battle Drexel on October 9 at 5 p.m. before welcoming Hofstra two days later for a 1 p.m. contest.
