Nane Joseph Leads ODU Over Drexel, 3-0

NORFOLK, VA-- ODU senior midfielder Nane Joseph scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead the Monarchs(10-4-2/5-3-2) to a 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Drexel (5-10-1/1-7-1) Friday night.

This was the final regular season home match of the season.

The Monarch senior put the ODU on the board with 2:30 left in the first half on an assist from freshman Mars Keomahavong (Auckland, New Zealand) off a corner kick. A little more than a minute later, Joseph then hit freshman Yannick Smith (Hillsborough, NJ.) on a long feed to the goal giving ODU a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Joseph fed Shane Howard (Co. Carlow, Ireland) to give the Monarchs their third goal of the night.

ODU outshot Drexel, 11-10. The Monarchs defense led by Jason Loizou, Nane Joseph, Alex De John (Malboro, NJ.) and Adam Roscioli (Forest, Va.) helped ODU keeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, Va.) register his eighth shutout of the season. Newton had five saves on the night.

Joseph and Smith are tied for the team lead in total points with 13. Joseph has five goals on three assists, while Smith has four goals and five assists. Shane Howard is next with 12 points and he leads theteam with six assists. Newton's goals against average is 0.78.

Tonight was the final regular season home game for seniors Adrian LeRoy (Ontario, Canada), Nane Joseph (Yaounde, Cameroon), Jason Loizou (Virginia Beach, Va.), Ambane Emmanuel (Yaounde, Cameroon), and Bobby Foglesong (Fredericksburg, Va.).

The victory gives ODU 17 points with one match remaining. Alan Dawson's Monarchs have won atleast10 matches in eight of the last ten years. ODU finishes the regular season at George Mason on Nov. 7th at 7 p.m.
