HARRISONBURG, Va. - Junior Amanda Bieber (Elizabethtown, Pa.) scored with just over five minutes remaining in the game to push the Old Dominion field hockey team past No. 9 James Madison, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.

The win was Old Dominion's second over a Top 10 team this season and improves the Lady Monarchs overall record to 8-10. More importantly, ODU moves to 4-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association and remains alive for one of four berths into the CAA Tournament.

After the teams battled to a scoreless first half, ODU senior Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) got the scoring started off in the 42nd minute. She made the insert on ODU's penalty corner opportunity and then positioned herself at the cage. After several touches, Ueberroth collected the loose ball and connected for the score.

Just five minutes later, the Dukes answered with a goal of their own as Dolores de Rooij tallied her 11th goal of the season off a penalty corner.

With the game tied and just over five minutes remaining, ODU garnered another penalty corner chance. Sophomore Rachel Stream (Poolesville, Md.) would send a shot towards the cage where Bieber was located to redirect the ball into the right side for the game-winner.

Lady Monarch goalkeeper Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) made four saves. Each team got nine shots off, while ODU held a 9-7 edge in penalty corners.

Old Dominion will return home Saturday, Oct. 31 to play its final non-conference game of the season against No. 2 North Carolina. The contest, beginning at 1 p.m., will be the Lady Monarchs annual scholarship game.

Old Dominion is currently fifth in the CAA standings with one conference game remaining. ODU will matchup against William & Mary on Nov. 1 at the Powhatan Sports Complex to conclude regular season league play.
