NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs return home for two games as they hostGeorgia State Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the ODU Soccer Complex. TheMonarchs also host Hofstra Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Panthers are led by Gimel Gordon, Caleb Kernan and Yasser Majluf with two goalseach. Vincent Foerner has a 1.34 goals against average in the net.Georgia State defeated Drexel last weekend, 3-1.
The Monarchs balanced scoring attack has three players with three goals and oneassist. They are Bobby Foglesong, Nane Joseph and Steffen Rabben. Freshman ShaneHoward also has seven points as he leads the team with five assists along withone goal. Fellow newcomer Yannick Smith has four assists. In the net, Evan Newtonhas a 0.78 goals against average and a .784 saves percentage.
In CAA statistics, Shane Howard ranks second in the league with five, tied withC.J. Sapong of JMU. Yannick Smith is tied for fourth in the league in assists.Evan Newton is tied with George Mason's Sean Kelley for second with five shutouts.He is fifth in save percentage.
ODU leads the series against Georgia State, 5-0. Last year, ODU beat the Panthersin Atlanta, 1-0. The first time the two teams ever played was the 2002 Stihl SoccerClassic.
