No. 19 Monarchs Host UNC Wilmington Saturday Night

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs (6-1/1-0) host the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington(4-2-1/0-0) Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the ODU Soccer Complex.

The Monarchs, winners of four straight are led by senior Nane Joseph and juniorSteffen Rabben with three goals, one assist for seven points each. Freshman andCAA Rookie of the Week Yannick Smith is second with one goal and four assists, whilefellow freshman Shane Howard has four assists.

In the net, junior Evan Newton has a 0.57 goals against average and a .846 savepercentage with four shutouts.

The Monarchs rank 19th nationally by the NSCAA-Coaches poll. ODU is 25th in Soccer America, and 28th in College Soccer News.

Rabben and Joseph are tied for tenth in the CAA in points and sixth in goals scored. Howard and Smith are tied for second in the CAA in assists, while EvanNewton ranks seventh in the CAA in saves and is second in the league in goals against average.

UNC Wilmington is led in scoring by Shawn Guderian with four goals for eight points. Tyler Wheaton is second with two goals and two assists for six points.Brock Duckworth has two shutouts and a 0.66 goals against average.

The Seahawks fell, 2-1 in duble overtime at 12th ranked Duke. Their CAA openeragainst Drexel was postponed due to rain.

ODU leads the series with the Seahawks, 14-5. UNCW last defeated ODU in 2006,winning 3-0. ODU later came back to beat UNCW, 1-0 in overtime in the quarterfinals of the CAA tournament.
