NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Men's Soccer squad (1-0) hits the road to Charleston, SC toplay Furman in the first round of the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic. Game time is 5 p.m.
The Monarchs are fresh off their season opening, 2-0 win over Longwood Tuesday night. Bobby Foglesong and Ambane Emmanuel each scored for ODU and freshmenYannick Smith and Shane Howard assisted.
"The College of Charleston Tournament will be very challenging as both C of C and Furman are excellent teams with strong soccer traditions," said ODU head coach Alan Dawson.
Furman (1-0) opened the season with a 1-0 win over Presbyterian. The Paladinswere 11-8-1 last year and tied for second in the Southern Conference. This is thefirst meeting between the two schools.
ODU will then play the host school College of Charleston on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.The Cougars opened the season with a 4-3 win over Coastal Carolina, as Riley Phelpsscored all three goals for the Chants. ODU and Coastal have only played once. Thatwas in the 2002 Stihl Soccer Classic with Coastal winning, 4-0.
