NORFOLK, Va. - Junior Loran Hatch (Green Lane, Pa.) scored off a penalty corner with just seven minutes remaining in double overtime to lift the No. 15 Old Dominion field hockey team past Boston University Sunday afternoon at the Powhatan Sports Complex.

The Lady Monarchs have now won three consecutive games and have improved their record to 5-5 overall. The Terriers, who are winless in 12 attempts against ODU, fall to 3-7 on the year. Today's game marked the first double overtime contest for Old Dominion since the Lady Monarchs upended Duke, 4-3, in 2006.

After being outshot in the first half 10-3, ODU's offense controlled the game in the second half and in the overtime periods. The Lady Monarchs outshot the Terriers 14-4 and earned six more penalty corners during the final 58 minutes of play.

Allie Dolce got BU on the board just nine minutes into the opening stanza as she raced into the circle and blasted a shot into the right side of the cage. The Terriers would maintain that lead until the 62nd minutes when current Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) dribbled through traffic and found the back of the cage to tie the game.

ODU kept the pressure on as senior Kathleen Shea (Elizaville, N.Y.) had a chance to score the game-winner with 48 seconds left, but her point blank shot towards the left side of the cage was stopped by BU goalkeeper Amanda Smith. Seconds later the Lady Monarchs garnered a penalty corner and sophomore Rachel Stream (Poolesville, Md.) got off two shots, but one was saved and the second was blocked as the game headed into overtime.

Boston University's best scoring chances came in the first overtime period. Two minutes in, the Terriers had a penalty corner but were unable to get a shot off. Then midway through the overtime, Nikki Lloyd blasted a shot but it missed, going just right of the cage.

ODU's best scoring chance in the first overtime period came when Ueberroth sent a perfect crossing shot onto the stick of senior Alyschia Conn (Peach Bottom, Pa.), but Smith was once again up to the task as she stopped the shot and the game went into double overtime.

Midway through the second overtime period, ODU took advantage of back-to-back corners. After the first didn't result in a shot, Hatch blasted a shot from the top of the circle to tally her third goal of the season and push ODU to its third consecutive win.

Senior goalkeeper Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) made nine saves and allowed only one goal for the fifth time this season.

The Lady Monarchs will play their first CAA road game on October 2 against Delaware. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
