NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Soccer Monarchs (5-1) host the Fightin' Blue Hens of Delaware(2-5) in the CAA opener for both teams Friday night at 7 p.m. in the ODU Soccer Complex.
The Monarchs rank 28 in the latest College Soccer News Top 30 poll and third in theNSCAA Regional Rankings behind Maryland and Virginia.
Delaware's two wins were, 2-0 victories over Navy and St. Joseph's. Junior forwardCourtney Hewitt leds UD in scoring with three goals, while senior forward DarrenChristie has two goals. Jon Scher leads the team with two assists. Christie leads the CAA with a 4.0 shots per match average.
In the series, ODU leads, 10-2. The Monarchs won last year, 4-0 while the Fightin'Blue Hens last win over ODU was in 2007, 2-0.
ODU is led by senior Nane Joseph with three goals, one assist for seven points. Bobby Foglesong, Ambane Emmanuel and stefen Rabben each have two goals, while freshman Shane Howard has four assists. Evan Newton has a 0.67 goals against average with three shutouts.
Nane ranks seventh in the CAA in total points and points per game. He is tied forfourth in the league in total goals made. Shane Howard is tied with CJ Sapong ofJMU with four assists, while Evan Newton ranks third in the league in goalsagainst average and save percentage (.840). He is second in shutouts.
