RICHMOND, VA--Old Dominion University Soccer standouts Attilla Vendegh('03), David Horst ('07), Trevor McEachron('05), Carlos Mendes (`01) and Jimmy Tanner ('99)have been selected to the Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Soccer 25th Anniversary Team as selected by a panel of current and former head coaches in the conference.
Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) is ODU's all-time leader in goals scored with 56. He was named CAA Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002. A 2000 CAA Rookie of the Year selection, Vendegh was named third team ISAA/NSCAA All-American in 2003. He was also named freshman All-American by Soccer America. Vendegh also was an outstanding student athlete, earning Academic All-American honors in 2002 and 2003. ODU reached the second round of the NCAA College Cup in 2002 and 2003.
David Horst (Pine Grove, PA.) was the Monarchs defensive stopper, earning CAA Defender of the Year honors in 2006 and 2007. In 2007, Horst was named second team All-American by Collegesoccernews.com. He was named All-CAA three times, as well as CAA All-Rookie. A first round draft selection in the MLS, he is now playing for Real Salt Lake. Horst helped lead ODU to four straight NCAA College Cup appearances, and the CAA 2007 title.
Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, Va.) was another dominant defensive stopper for the Monarchs as he was named the Leagues Defender of the Year in 2004. The three-time All-CAA selection earned All-American honors in 2003 by the NSCAA and freshman All-American honors by Collegesoccernews.com in 2001. Trevor missed the 2004 season because of a knee injury, but in 2005, he returned to help leadThe Monarchs to a number two national ranking during the month of October.
Carlos Mendes (Mineola, NY.) was a three-time All-CAA first team selection from 1999-01. As a freshman in 1998, he was named CAA Rookie of the Year. Mendes is now in his fifth season anchoring the defense for the MLS New York Red Bull who reached the Championship Cup finals last year.
Jimmy Tanner (Syracuse, NY.) scored 20 goals in 1999 and was named CAA Player of the Year. He earned third team NSCAA All-American honors that season. The two-time All-CAA selection finished his career with 32 career goals and 79 career points which rank him third all-time in ODU history. He also earned Academic All-American honors in 1999.

The CAA has established itself as one of the nation's best men's soccer conferences. Since sponsorship of the sport began in 1985, the CAA has sent multiple teams to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship in 17 of the 24 seasons, with American University reaching the national championship game in 1985. The conference has had a team reach the NCAA quarterfinals six times.William and Mary has captured five conference championships and made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances over the past 24 years. George Mason and James Madison have each won four CAA titles and made eight NCAA Tournament trips as league members. VCU owns three CAA titles and has made six NCAA Tournament appearances, while Hofstra claimed three straight CAA championships from 2004-06. Richmond and Old Dominion each have two league crowns, with the Monarchs reaching the NCAA's seven times, including a stretch of six straight from 2002-07.
