BOSTON, Mass. -- Old Dominion is holding onto eighth place at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Eastern Semi-Final, where the top nine boats will head to nationals in June. ODU is just seven points ahead of Navy for 10th and will look to improve its positioning on day two.
The event was held to just four races on the first day, with Tufts University leading the way with 29 points. ODU totaled 72 points, 17 back of a top five finish.
Old Dominion was led by the B division boat, finishing among the top eight boats in three of the four races, including a high of fourth place in the final race of the day. Stephanie Roble and Alissa Ayres sailed in B division for the Monarchs on day one, totaling 31 points and an eighth place effort.
In A division, Kyle Rogachenko skippered with Jaclyn Finney, finishing with 41 points on the day. The tenth place finish in A division puts them just six points behind Tulane for the ninth place spot and 13 back of a top five finish. The A division pair had a third place finish, the best for ODU on day one.
The team combined for 72 total points, tied with Vermont for one of the last qualifying positions. Stanford trails the Monarchs by just one point and the Midshipmen from Navy are seven points back. The top nine finishers will compete in the ICSA National Championship from June 2-4.
