W&M Rallies To Defeat ODU, 6-5

NORFOLK, VA--The Tribe of William and Mary (18-21/7-10) rallied for four runs in the ninth to defeatOld Dominion (17-22/9-8) Saturday afternoon, 6-5 in a Colonial Athletic Association game.

ODU starter Brady Burchill (Hope, ND.)pitched eight-plus innings allowing three runs on five hits, four walks and four strikeouts in the no decision. He held W&M scoreless for five innings. The Tribes Kevin Landry pitched (2-5) a complete game, giving up 12 hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. ODU scored four of its five runs in the first three innings.

ODU led in the ninth 4-2, but Derrick Osteen doubled home Tadd Bower and pinch runner Kevin Alas to tie the game at 4-4. Tyler Stampone then singled home Jeff Jones and Osteen to give the Tribe a 6-4lead.

Junior shortstop Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) hit his third homerun of the season with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to pull ODU to within a run.

Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va. ) got ODU on the board in the first with an RBI single that plated Max Most (Port Washington, NY.). Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA. ) then doubled home Jack McAloose. In the second inning Cameron Scott (Culpeper, Va.) slammed his third homer of the season to right to make it, 3-0. In the third Josh Wright singled home Jake McAloose for a 4-0 ODU lead.

William and Mary scored two runs in the sixth when Lanny Stanfield doubled home Rob Nickleand Chris Forsten.

Josh Wright led ODU with three hits and two runs batted in. Max Most, Jake McAlose also hadTwo hits for ODU. Derrick Osteen and Tyler Stampone each had two hits and two RBI for William and Mary.

Brady Burchill lowered his ERA to 4.98

The third and deciding game of the series is Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
