THROGS NECK, N.Y. -- The 18th ranked ODU sailing team finished in seventh place at the America Trophy and qualified for the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) National Semi-Finals for a consecutive season. Junior Kyle Rogachenko sailed with Jaci Finney to a fifth place finish in A division on day two.
The Monarchs seventh place finish was good enough to grab the four seed at the ICSA Eastern Semi-Final hosted by MIT the first weekend of May.
In A division, Rogachenko and Finney sailed a great second day, finishing with five top ten efforts including a second place finish in the final race of the event. The 74 points was enough for fifth place in the division and just 12 points back of a top three finish.
Senior Alissa Ayres was crew for both senior Michael Brown and sophomore Stephanie Roble in day two action in B division. The trio combined for a sixth place finish with 95 total points. Roble and Ayres grabbed three top ten finishes on day two.
The team combined for 169 points and a seventh place finish. The Monarchs were just five points out of a tie for fifth place with St. Mary's College and Hobart & William Smith College.
ODU will now prepare for the ICSA National Semi-Final on May 2-3 in Boston, Mass.
