NORFOLK, VA--Senior righthander Brady Burchill( Hope, ND.) pitched a complete game, with offensivesupport from Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) who knocked in three runs and Brett Harris (Chesapeake, VA. )who knocked in two as Old Dominion (14-20/7-7) defeated Hofstra (6-23/2-12), 9-3 Saturday afternoon.
Burchill ran his record to 3-2 as he scattered eight hits, and fanned four. Hofstra scored all three runsin the first inning. Burchill walked three straight in the first, then Scott A'Hara singled home Chris Mentrasti and Tom Legregni. John Kenny later scored from third on an ODU throwing error for the 3-0 lead.
Rightfielder Cameron Scott (Culpeper, VA. ) singled home Josh Wright in the second to get ODU on the board. In the fourth Josh Wright slammed his team leading seventh homer, and second in as many games to tie the game at 3-3.
In the ODU fifth Brett Harris singled home Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA. ) and Josh Wright singled home Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va.) to give the Monarchs a 5-3 lead. Max Most (Port Washington, NY. ) scored from third on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, for the Monarchs.
In the ODU eighth shortstop Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) tripled home Max Most, and Jake McAloose then singled home Hall. Brett Harris' sacrifice fly plated Donnie Corsner to finish the ODU scoring.
Brett Harris led ODU with three hits along with two RBI, while Josh Wright had two hits and three RBI.Jake McAloose, Donnie Corsner and Cameron Scott each had two hits on the day as well for the Monarchs.
Mark Stuckless and Scott A'Hara led Hofstra with two hits each. The third and final game of the seriesis Sunday at 2 p.m.
