Norfolk, Va. – Fourth-seeded Old Dominion defeated #5 UNC Wilmington 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2009 CAA Women's Tennis Championship on Friday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va. The Lady Monarchs will face the top seed Georgia State on Saturday at 10 a.m.
In the opening match of the day, ODU advanced to the semifinals in a battle that was closer than the final score would indicate. ODU jumped out to a 1-0 lead after capturing the doubles point. The Lady Monarchs’ number one team of Nadine Fahoum and Margarita Spicin rolled to an 8-0 victory over Chelsea Kahle and Christina Lee, and the ODU number three tandem of Charleen Haarhoff and Marija Citic posted an 8-3 win over Priscilla Roberts and Lindsay Leblang.
The Lady Monarchs clinched the victory with three straight-set wins in singles as Fahoum blanked Kayla Schwenk, 6-0, 6-0 at number one, Haaarhoff topped Roberts, 6-2, 6-2 at number two and Spicin beat Lauren Isenhour, 6-0, 6-2 at number four.
