NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University (13-20/6-7) freshman pitcher Brett Harris (Chesapeake, Va.) pitched a complete game, had four hits and knocked in three runs to lead the Monarchs to a 13-5 CAAvictory over Hofstra ( 6-22/2-11) Friday night. ODU also debuted its brand new scoreboard.
Harris upped his record to 4-3 and completed his CAA leading third game of the season, as he scattered12 hits with only two walks and four strikeouts. Hofstra scored four of the five runs in the first three innings. At the plate, Harris had two doubles and scored four times. He knocked in the go ahead run in the fifth and two more in the eighth inning.
Red-shirt freshman firstbaseman Josh Wright (bridgewater, VA.) slammed his team best sixth home run of the season with Harris aboard in the fourth to tie the game at 4-4.
Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va.) , Josh Wright and Cameron Scott (Culpeper , Va.) each had two hits on the night, while Wright joined Harris with three RBI. Chris Buss (Rosemont, MN.) also knocked in two runs for ODU, as the Monarchs pounded out 13 hits.
Hofstra was led by Chris Mentrasti with three hits, while John Kenny had two hits and two runs knockedin. Game two of the series is Saturday at 4 p.m.
