SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The seventh ranked Old Dominion women's sailing team won the women's division of the St. Francis Intersectional in California this weekend by over 50 points and finished sixth overall. The B division sailors took first place and the A division boat finished in second to run away with the victory after eight completed races. The Lady Monarchs finished with 148 points, good for a sixth place effort among all 32 teams.
In B division, junior skipper Katrina Williams guided the Lady Monarchs to a fifth place effort overall and a first place finish in the women's division. She sailed with senior Alissa Ayres and freshman Arianna Baker and put up 73 total points in the regatta. They finished with six top ten efforts in the eight completed races, including one second.
Sophomore Stephanie Roble skippered the A division boat with senior Jaci Finney and junior Ashley Brusso. The trio finished second in the women's division and seventh overall with 75 total points. They kicked off the regatta with a win and a second place finish and, like their B division counterparts, also had six top ten finishes on the weekend.
The 148 points combined for the ODU women was good enough to win the women's division by over 50 points. The second place women's team were the USC women with 200 total points. Among the entire fleet, the Lady Monarchs managed to finish sixth overall, behind just five co-ed teams. The 148 total points was just five back of a top five finish and 54 points behind the winning Washington College team.
