No. 20 ECU Defeats Monarchs, 8-3

GREENVILLE, NC-- The 20th ranked Pirates of East Carolina scored three runs in the sixth and three in the eighth to defeat Old Dominion (3-5) Wednesday evening.

Firstbaseman John Malbon (Virginia Beach, Va.) and secondbaseman Josh Wright (Bridgewater, Va.) each had two hits for ODU as well as one RBI each.Outfielder Cameron Scott (Culpeper, VA>) knocked in a run for the Monarchs while junior shortstop Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) walked four timesin the game.

With ODU leading, 3-2, the Pirates got three straight RBI singles from pinch hitterAustin Homan, Trent Whitehead and Ryan Wood to take a 5-3 lead. The Pirates thenadded three more in the eighth to complete the scoring.

Trent Whitehead and Jared Avchen led ECU with three this and one RBI each. Brady Mincey andSeth Simmons pitched the last five innings of shutout ball for ECU.

ODU returns to action on Friday when the Monarchs host Rutgers in a three-gameseries. Friday's game begins at 3 p.m. in the Bud Metheny Complex.
