NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University (6-11/ 1-0 CAA) freshman righthander Brett Harris (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory HS) pitched a complete game allowing just three runs with no walks and eight strikeouts to lead the Monarchs over George Mason (14-4/0-1 CAA), 6-3. Harris runs his record to 3-1 on the season, and ended the Patriots 10-game winning streak which was the second longest in school history.ODU has won three of its last four.
The Monarchs exploded for five runs in the second inning highlighted by a three-run homer fromCameron Scott (Culpeper, Va.). Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va. ) also knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly.
The Monarchs added a run in the fifth when shortstop Chris Buss (Rosemount, MN.) doubled homeMax Most (Port Washington, NY.).
The Patriots scored a run in the second on Jason Bour's sixth homer of the season. In the third, Masoncut the lead to 5-3 as Chris Henderson doubled home Brent Weiss, and Scott Krieger's sacrificefly plated Spencer Wiggins.
Donnie Corsner and Edgar Hernandez led ODU with two hits each on the night, while Krieger, and ShaneDavis each had two hits for Mason.
Game two of the CAA series is Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
