REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
Saturday began with no wind and racing was delayed for over an hour.Eventually, a 3-5 knot Easterly filled in and racing began off TritonPoint. There was some current, which played a factor in the lightbreeze which remained mostly steady throughout the early races.After four races per division, the breeze began to lighten furtherand the fleet was sent in for lunch at 1300. Another wind delayensued until a 3-5 knot Southwesterly filled in and three more racesper division were completed to make 7 for the day. An 8th race wasstarted and then abandoned when the wind totally died and the fleetwas sent in to enjoy a cookout sponsored by the Naval Academy SailingSquadron. The afternoon breeze proved to be much puffier andshiftier, making for challenging racing. One protest was heard,resulting in one DSQ. A division sailed in 420s all day, while B wasin FJs. The divisions will switch fleets for the start of racingtomorrow. Special thanks to LT Ted Huebner and his team ofMidshipmen for getting off 7 quality racing under challengingconditions, Herb Larabee and Dick Morin for serving as ProtestCommittee, and Joan Morin and her NASS volunteer for a great dinner.
