NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University freshman righthander Brett Harris (Chesapeake, Va.) scattered five hits and pitched a complete game to lead the Monarchs to a 3-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday. The second game was suspended in the third inning due to rain with ODU leading, 5-3.The victory ended the Monarchs six-game losing streak. ODU is ow 4-10 overall, whileFDU is 1-5.
Harris, from nearby Hickory High School fanned seven with four walks in picking up his second win of the season, and lowered his ERA to 3.00.
In the first inning, Max Most (Port Washington, NY. ) singled, stole second and came home on Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, Va. ) single to centerfield. In the second inning, Cameron Scott (Culpeper, VA.) singled, stole second and came home on Austin Wright's (Virginia Beach, Va. ) single. Wright advanced to second on a FDU error, then scored from second on an RBI single by senior centerfielder Max Most.
FDU scored in the sixth as Matt Maher singled, stole second., the later came home on an ODUError. The Knights threatened in the top of the seventh as they loaded the bases with one out,but Harris got Jeff Vincent to hit into a double play to get out of the jam and end the game.
Max Most led ODU with two of the five hits on the day.
Matt Maher led FDU with two hits on the day. Nicholas Melchiorre pitched six innings withseven strikeouts and only two walks and two earned runs allowed.
Sunday's action will start at 12 noon with the completion of the suspended game, followed by twoseven inning games.
