Norfolk, Va. – The Old Dominion University men’s tennis team won four of the six singles matches to defeat visiting Marquette 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
The Golden Eagles won the doubles point with a pair of 8-4 victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Matt Fawcett and Tobias Fanselow came up with the Monarchs only doubles win with an 8-6 victory over Trent Hagan and Niko Bourielis at No. 1.
In singles play the Monarchs got straight set victories from Aleksandr Seleznev at No. 1 and Ben Marks who defeated Jonathan Schwerin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. Fanselow dropped the first set of his match at No. 2 against Dusan Medan, but came back to win 6-7(5), 7-6(1), 6-3. Matt Fawcett sealed the match for ODU with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Bourielis at No. 3.
ODU returns to action tomorrow when the Monarchs host the Crimson of Harvard at 1 p.m.
