ODU Athletes Excel in Classroom; 89 Student-Athletes on Dean's List

NORFOLK, Va. - Tonight at the Ted Constant Convocation Center at halftime of the men's basketball game against Towson, 89 Old Dominion student-athletes were honored for earning Dean's List honors, including 13 who earned a 4.0 grade point average or better. Student-athletes that earned a 3.4 GPA or better will be acknowledged for their success in the classroom.

The field hockey team boasted 13 Dean's List athletes, including Katelyn Smither and Kathleen Shea, both of whom were named First Team All-CAA. Smither was also named First Team All-State and Second Team All-Region after leading the team in scoring with 25 points, 11 goals and three assists.

The list includes several of the Monarchs top athletes, including CAA Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year Steffen Rabben, a pair of nationally ranked wrestlers James Nicholson and Ryan Williams, and record-smashing rookie swimmer Erla Haraldsdottir. Rabben led the men's soccer team in scoring with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. Nicholson and Williams are both ranked in the top ten this year and have posted 28 wins already this season. Haraldsdottir is leading the women's team in several events, including setting a new school record in the 100 breast by over a second and a half.
