Four Lady Monarchs Earn All-CAA Honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Four Lady Monarchs were named to All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) teams in a vote of the league's nine head coaches. The awards were presented Friday night in Virginia Beach at a banquet on the eve of the semifinals of the CAA Field Hockey Championship.

Senior Katelyn Smither (Suffolk, Va.) and junior Kathleen Shea (Elizaville, N.Y.) were named First Team All-CAA, while freshmen Jestine Angelini (Boiling Springs, Pa.) and Rachel Stream (Poolesville, Md.) were named to the All-Rookie Team.

Smither earns her second consecutive First Team All-CAA honor. The senior Lady Monarch leads Old Dominion with 10 goals, including four-game winners, and 23 points. Defensively, Smither also recorded four defensive saves.

Shea receives her first all-conference honor with her nod to the first team. Shea is the Lady Monarchs' second leading scorer with five goals under her belt this season, while defensively she leads her squad with five defensive saves.

Stream has collected three goals, an assist, and seven points in her rookie campaign. Stream has appeared in 20 of the Lady Monarchs' 21 games. including 13 starts.

Angelini appeared in 15 games en-route to her All-Rookie selection, which included starts in the final four games of the regular season. Angelini also became part of the penalty corner unit in the latter part of the 2008 season.

The Old Dominion field hockey team returns to the turf on Saturday, November 8th in the semifinals of the CAA Tournament. The third-seeded Lady Monarchs will take on second-seeded Drexel at 2:30 p.m. at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach.
