NORFOLK, VA.-- Old Dominion (9-7-3) and Northeastern (7-4-8) battled each other for 110 minutes without scoring a goal. The Huskies then defeated the Monarchs in a shootout,5-4 on penalty kicks to advance to the CAA semi-finals. Northeastern will play CAA top seed UNC Wilmington Friday at 5 p.m in Wilmington, NC. George Masondefeated Hofstra in the other quarterfinal match and will play William and Mary at 7:30 on Friday.
Northeastern edged out ODU, 12-11 on shots, but shots on goal were even at five each. The Monarchs freshman keeper Michael Roura made five saves as did Northeastern's Scott Partridge, includingtwo late in regulation.
With penalty kicks evenat four,Matt Pentkowski broke the tie with a shot in theupper lefthand corner of the net after Northeastern's goalie blocked a shot fromODU's Ollie Lutton.
Nane Joseph led ODU with two shots on goal, while Harry Gillespie, Ambane Emmanuel and Roberto Squeglia had one shot each forThe defending CAA Champion Monarchs.
