ITHACA, N.Y. -- ODU junior sailor Kyle Rogachenko (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton HS) maintained his lead at the ICSA Singlehanded National Championship after the second day with just six races remaining. Rogachenko is ahead by one point headed into the final day of racing. Stephanie Roble (East Troy, Wisc./Catholic Central-Burlington) slipped to eighth on day two, but finished strong and Morgan Wilson (Arnold, Md./Annapolis HS) held her position at 12th. The men's fleet completed seven races on day two and the women sailed six.
Rogachenko relinquished the lead in the first race on Saturday, as Rob Crane of Hobart College picked up three points. Crane would lead for the first four races on Saturday but Rogachenko re-took the top spot and held strong for the final three. He has posted 46 points and is just one point ahead of Crane heading into the final day. In a tight regatta, the top six slots are separated by just 20 points with as many as six races left to be sailed.
Rogachenko sailed well on day two, posting 30 points in seven races. He had three second place efforts and was in the top five twice more. The ODU sailor will try to hold off his opponents starting tomorrow at 9:00 am.
In the women's event, Roble slipped to eighth after six completed races on day two, with 66 total points. Her two-day total is 98 points, just 13 back of a second consecutive top five finish at the championship. She finished strong on day two, with a third and a fifth place finish to close.
Wilson is still in 12th after the second day, with 121 points. She added four more top ten finishes on day two.
The final day of sailing begin on Sunday starting at 9:00 am.
