NORFOLK, VA--Junior midfielder Nane Joseph (Yaunde, Cameroon) scored two goals, including the game winner with nine minutes left in the secondOvertime period to give the Monarchs of Old Dominion (8-5-2/5-2-1)a 2-1 CAA victory over Northeastern (5-4-6/3-2-3) Saturday night. The victory puts ODUin first place by one point over idle UNCW who will play Delaware on Sunday,and Drexelwho tied JMU Saturday night.
Joseph put ODU up at the half when he fired a shot in from eight yards out after a pass from Trevor Banks(Madison, WI.). In the second half, Petur Vidarrson got the equalizer for Northeastern on an assist from Mike Kennedy.
The winning goal came on an assist from Roberto Squeglia(Schenectady, NY.) who hit Joseph with a short pass on the left side of the box. ODU outshot NU,14-11 as ODU sophomore keeper Brennan Kirkpatrick(Shreveport, LA. ) came up with four saves on the night. Scott Partridge had three saves for Northeastern.
This is the second time in Joseph's career that he has scored two goals in a matchagainst the Huskies. He did it last year in a 2-0 win over NU.
ODU travels to Richmond Wednesday night to take on the Rams of VCU at 7 p.m.
