BALTIMORE, Md. -- For the second time in as many games, the Lady Monarchs won in overtime in come from behind fashion. Old Dominion (3-0) defeated defending MAAC Champions Loyola College (0-2) behind the foot of senior Shavon Knight, who scored two goals including the gamewinner in the 97th minute of play.

For the second time in the weekend, ODU fell behind their opponent in the first half, 1-0. Loyola speedster Theresa Ferraina scored the first goal on an assist by Christina Gomez. Then, just 2:48 into the second half, Ferraina assisted on Julianne Bausch's goal to put the Greyhounds up 2-0.

The Lady Monarchs would kick it into gear in the second half though and started pressuring the Loyola keeper, Brittany Henderson, with eight shots, including six on-goal. Knight scored her third goal of the season in the 62nd minute, to cut the lead to one. Senior Katie Watson sent a cross into a crowded box and several players got a touch, but freshman Victoria Johnson got a shot off and Knight corralled the rebound into the goal.

Watson would score the equalizer in the 76th minute, unassisted. She streaked into the box after a Greyhound defenseman misplayed the ball toward her own goal, took one dribble and laced a left-footer off the right post into the goal. ODU continued to pressure the goal but was unable to convert in regulation.

In the first extra period, ODU had two great opportunities in the first couple minutes, but again failed to convert. It wasn't until the 97th minute of play that senior Janna Pearson would find herself open in the corner for a fantastic cross to the feet of Knight on the far post. It was Knight's fourth goal of the season and the 28th of her career, giving her sole possession of fourth on the ODU All-Time List. The goal also gave Knight sole possession of fourth on the ODU All-Time Points list with 64.

The defense also stepped it up for Old Dominion, allowing just two shots in the last 51:39. Seniors Elizabeth Brewster and Marilee Mastaler combined with juniors Brittney Kortz and Saratu Dodo with freshman Lisa Bernardini for the defensive stand. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Tupman improved to 3-0 on the season and 6-1-2 in overtime in her career.

It was the largest deficit overcome for the Lady Monarchs since a 3-2 victory over Georgia State in the 2005 season. ODU outshot LC 19-6, including 12-4 on-goal.

ODU will now return to Norfolk for the home opener scheduled for Friday, September 5 against Liberty. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm.
