BALTIMORE,MD--Former ODU pitching standout Justin Verlander ('04) scattered three hitsto help lead Detroit to a 5-1 win over Baltimore Sunday. It was Verlander's sixth straight win toimprove his record to 8-9 overall. Verlander picked up his sixth straight win, and fourth win in as many starts.
The Goochland, VA., native allowed only three hits, striking out three batters and walking onlythree in 8.2 innings of work to improve his ERA to 3.95. At one stretch he retired 16 straight Orioles. Verlander has not lost a game since June 6 against Cleveland. Overall, Verlander has 99 strikeouts in134 innings of work.
