NORFOLK, VA-- The Monarchs host the Panthers of Georgia State Universityin the final three-game home CAA series of the Year beginning Friday at7 p.m. ODU's six seniors will be honored on Sunday.
Georgia State and ODU are two of the top three pitching staffs in theCAA as well as in stolen bases.
GSU's Robinson Polanco ranks seventh in the CAA with a 3.86 earned run average.He is currently 7-3 overall. Will Palmer is 3-2 with a 3.64 earned runaverage which ranks him fifth in the CAA. Georgia State's team ERA is5.20.
Infielder Derek Simmons is 10th in the CAA with a .372 batting average. He also ranks eighth in the League with a .465 on base percentage.The Panthers have 84 stolen bases, led by Jean Michael Rochon-Salvasand Nick Hogan with 14 each.
Leading the Monarchs is Jimmy Miles at .374 with a CAA leading 36stolen bases which ranks him third nationally. Firstbaseman Bryan Cipollais hitting .360 with a team best 48 RBI, while Anthony Shawler is at .353with seven homers and 39 RBI. Max Most ranks fourth in the CAA in stolen bases with 16. Designated hitter/Outfielder David Burns leads ODU inhomers with 11.
On the mound, Ryan Bergh is tied for the CAA lead in complete gameswith four and second in the CAA with a 3.07 earned run average, and third in innings pitched with 73.1. AnthonyShawler is second in the CAA in strikeouts with 83, and tied for fourth in complete games with two. Dan Hudson leads the league in strikeoutswith 86, and eighth in innings pitched with 68. ODU is scheduled tothrow Dan Hudson on Friday, Anthony Shawler on Saturday, and Ryan Berghon Sunday.
As a team, ODU's ERA is second in the CAA at 5.16. The Monarchs leadthe league in stolen bases with 98 which ranks seven nationally.
Saturday's game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., with Sundays match upstarting at 1 p.m. Prior to Sunday's game, the six Monarch seniors,Ryan Bergh, David Burns, Chris Keenan, David Wagner, Jimmy Miles andBryan Cipolla will be honored.
