NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University junior righthander Dexter Carter(Murfreesboro, NC.-Greenbrier Christian) pitched eight innings, allowing onlythree runs as the Monarchs defeated Radford, 11-3 Wednesday afternoon.
ODU has now won four straight to improve to 22-21 overall and Radford dropsto 19-27.
The Highlanders took a 2-0 lead in the first as Reggie Keen doubled homeTyren Rivers. Keen then scored from third when Raphael Turner was caughtin a run-down, trying to steal second.
Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.) singled, then stole second and third. He came home on John Malbon's (Virginia Beach, VA.) single. The Monarchs scored four runs in the third as Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.) doubled home Malbon and David Burns (Jacksonville, FL.). Robbie Watkins' (Newport News, VA.) sacrifice fly scored plated McAloose and Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA. ) doubled home Chris Buss (Rosemont, MN.) to give the Monarchs a 5-2 lead.
The Monarchs then scored six runs in the fifth which was capped off with DavidBurns' 11th homerun of the season with Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) aboard.
Jimmy Miles, Bryan Cipolla, Jake McAloose, Chris Buss, Robbie Watkins,and Chris Keenan each had two hits on the day for ODU. Keenan, McAlooseand Burns each knocked in two runs.
Jimmy Miles stole four bases on the day to raise his CAA leading total to 36which ranks third nationally.
Dexter Carter picked up his second of the season, fanning seven withseven walks and three hits. Cory Toth fanned two in the ninth innings.
The Monarchs host Georgia State in a CAA three-game series beginning Fridayat 7 p.m.
