RICHMOND, Va. -- Six individuals and four relay teams from the Old Dominion men's swimming and diving team were honored with All-CAA honors it was announced Thursday by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
Senior Patrik Balint (Budapest, Hungary) earned six all-conference accolades from his performances in the 100 back, 200 back, 400 free relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay. The senior Monarch captured both the 100 and 200 back titles at the CAA Tournament in late February/early March, setting ODU records in both events. His 200 back time of 1:46.15, which topped his previous time of 1:48.27 set in 2006, was also an NCAA "B" cut.
Freshman Mikael Ramkvist (Bjarred, Sweden) followed on the all-conference list with four All-CAA awards in the 100 back, 200 back, 400 free relay, and 800 free relay. Ramkvist was also a member of the 800 free relay team that placed first at the CAA Championships.
Junior captain Johan Lundberg (Fjaras, Sweden) earned honors in four events including the 200 breast, 200 individual medley, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay. Lundberg, who captured the 200 IM title, also helped set a new ODU record in the 400 medley relay. Along with Balint, Wesley Murai and Chad Gangwer, Lundberg helped the Monarch squad placed second at CAA's with a new school record time of 3:21.18.
Sophomore Chad Gangwer (Va. Beach, Va.) also earned All-CAA recognition in four events. Gangwer earned honors for his performance in the 200 free as well as with the 400 free relay, 800 free relay, and 400 medley relay teams. Gangwer placed third in the 200 free at the CAA Championships.
Rookie Wesley Murai (Budapest, Hungary), who was an important member of the relay squads, earned all-conferences nods in the 400 free relay and 200 medley relay.
Sophomore Kevin Latimer (Newport News, Va.) swam his way to conference honors in the 200 fly, where he picked up second in the event at the conference championships.
Senior diver Noah Scully (Va. Beach, Va.) picked up his All-CAA honor for his performance on the three-meter board. Scully placed third at the championships recording 302.80 points.
Also earning an all-conference award were Vincent Pastore (Philadelphia, Pa) as a member of the 200 medley relay team that placed second and Kristofer Hagg (Skovde, Sweden) as a member of the first place 800 free relay squad.
The 2007-08 Old Dominion men's swimming and diving team finished second at the CAA Championships and captured a perfect 10-0 meet record.
