VMI Defeats Monarchs, 7-3

NORFOLK, VA--Tanner Biagini and Jordan Ballard each drove intwo runs to lead the Keydets of VMI to a 7-3 win over Old DominionWednesday night at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

Jimmy Miles led ODU with two hits and three stolen bases. He nowleads the CAA with 24 steals and is hitting .397 with 38 runs scored.

ODU scored first when Jimmy Miles led off with a walk. He was sacrificedto second by Chris Keenan, then stole third and then came home on a doublesteal by himself and Anthony Shawler.

The Keydets scored three runs in the third on just one hit and two bases loadedwalks and a hit by pitch to take a 3-1 lead. In all, VMI scored seven runs on only five hits along with nine walks. Shane Geisslinger had two hits and scored twice for VMI.John Ballard slammed his team leading seventh homer in the ninth.

Freshman outfielder Chris Baker (Chesapeake, Va.), who hit a solo homer against the Norfolk Tides last night, scored ODU's second run on a double by Jimmy Miles.

The Monarchs final run came in the eighth when Chris Keenan walked, went to thirdon Bryan Cipolla's double and scored on Max Most's groundout. ODU's three pitchers fanned 12 on the night.

ODU hosts Virginia Commonwealth in a three-game CAA series this weekend beginningFriday at 7 p.m.
