Newport News, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Championships with a 4-0 quarterfinal win over UNC Wilmington at the Huntington Park Tennis Center Friday morning. The No. 3 seed Lady Monarchs will take on No. 2 seed VCU Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Lady Monarchs took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches to open the morning session. The first team All-CAA tandem of Charleen Haarhoff and Nadine Fahoum earned an 8-1 win at No. 1 over UNCW's team of Kayla Schwenk and Lauren Isenhour, while Joanna Dobrowolska and Daniela Cohen picked up the 8-4 victory at No. 2.
In singles action, Haarhoff again came up big with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 decision over Priscilla Roberts at No.1. Dobrowolska, a third team all-conference selection, downed Isenhour 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 and Barbara Costa cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lindsay Leblang at No. 4.
