Wilmington, N.C. - The Old Dominion University women's tennis team ended its regular season on Sunday with a 6-1 win over the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington. With the victory the Lady Monarchs ended the Seahawks' three-match winning streak and improved to 13-9, 3-2 in the CAA, while UNCW now stands at 17-9-1 and 4-4 in league action.
ODU got off to solid start by capturing the doubles point with an 8-1 win at No. 1 and an 8-2 victory at No. 3. The Lady Monarchs nearly swept all three doubles matches but were edged in a tiebreaker 7-6 (5) at No. 2.
In singles play the Lady Monarchs continued their dominance by taking five of the six matches, including three straight set victories. Charleen Haarhoff (No. 1), Nadine Fahoum (No. 2) and Joanna Dobrowolska (No. 3) all won in straight sets, while Barbara Costa needed three sets to defeat Lindsay Leblang 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).
Next up for ODU is the CAA Tennis Championships which begin April 17 at Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News, Va.
