Norfolk, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's tennis team fell to its second straight ranked opponent on Friday, as #36 VCU defeated the Lady Monarchs 4-3 on the outdoor courts of the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center. With the loss the Lady Monarchs fall to 12-9, 2-2 in the CAA, while the Rams improved to 16-4, 6-1 in league play.
Charleen Haarhoff and Nadine Fahoum picked up an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over VCU's team of Konstantinova and Malakhova, yet the Rams were able to secure the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3.
In singles action, Fahoum came back from a set down to defeat Konstantinova 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 at No. 2 and improve to 19-2 on the season. The other two ODU victories came after the Rams players were forced to retire. VCU escaped with the 4-3 win behind straight set victories at No. 3, 4 and 6.
