Norfolk, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's tennis team made easy work of visiting Winthrop Saturday afternoon, defeating the Eagles 6-1 at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.
The Lady Monarchs got things started by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. ODU won 8-1 at No. 1 and 8-5 at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions.
In singles action ODU captured five of the six matches with four wins coming in straight sets. Charleen Haarhoff (No. 1), Nadine Fahoum (No. 2), Joanna Dobrowolska (No. 3) and Marija Citic (No. 6) all earned straight set victories, while at No. 4 Barbara Costa rallied from a set down to defeat Lisa Wilkinson 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Larisa Bekmetova accounted for the Eagles' only point with a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) win over Daniela Cohen at the No. 5 position.
