NORFOLK, VA--The ODU Baseball Monarchs scored all 12 runsin the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to defeat Temple, 12-0. The win gives fourth-year head coach Jerry Meyers his 100th career collegiate win.
The Monarchs broke up a scoreless duel between Temples Mike Mongiardini and ODU's Ryan Bergh (Reddick, FL.) in the fourth with a five run outburst highlighted by a three-run homer from freshman catcher Edgar Hernandez (Luquillo, PR.)
Senior righthander Ryan Bergh pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up fourhits and striking out five. Freshmen Robbie Watkins (Newport News, VA.) and Daniel Abdalla (Stevensville, MD.) pitched the final two innings for the combined five-hit shutout.
Jimmy Miles (Orlando, FL.), Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA.), Bryan Cipolla (Plainview, NY.) each knocked in three runs for the Monarchs, while Hernandez and Max Most (Port Washington, NY.) each scored three times. Chris Buss (Rosemont, MN.) and Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, VA.) each led ODU with three runs scored.
ODU got eight hits on the day along with 13 walks received from Templepitchers. ODU returns to action Tuesday night when they host East Carolina at5 p.m.
