Seahawks Halt Monarchs' Six-Game Win Streak with 72-64 Victory

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Todd Hendley scored 20 points Saturday to help North Carolina-Wilmington beat Old Dominion 72-64. ODU juniorforward Jonathan Adams led the Monarchs with 16 points.

ODU will be the fourth seed in the upcoming CAA Championships.

Brian Henderson and Brandon each scored ten points for the Monarchs.Johnson also came up with four steals to give him 233 for his careerwhich ranks him second all-time at ODU and fourth all-time in CAAhistory. Johnson now has 86 steals this season which is the most inone season at ODU, breaking Frank Smith's previous mark of 83 in 1987-88.

T.J. Carter had 17 points for the Seahawks (19-12, 12-6 Colonial Athletic Association), who ended a two-game losing skid and earned the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament. UNC-Wilmington shot 54 percent for the game and took a 38-27 rebounding advantage.

Jonathan Adams had 16 points for the Monarchs (17-14, 11-7), who trailed by 10 points at halftime.

UNC-Wilmington led by as many as 18 points in the second half, though the Monarchs managed to pull within eight points with about 6 minutes to play. But Chad Tomko knocked down a 3-pointer followed by a transition layup to push the lead to 61-48 with 3:16 left.

The pairings are set for the 2008 Aeropostale CAA Men's Basketball Championship, which will be held March 7-10 at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.

The tournament tips off at Noon on Friday, March 7 as eighth-seeded Hofstra (12-17, 8-10 in CAA) faces #9 Towson (12-17, 7-11), followed by #5 William and Mary (14-15, 10-8 in CAA) against #12 Georgia State (9-20, 5-13 in CAA) at 2:30 p.m. A pair of long-time rivals face off at 6 p.m. as #7 Delaware (13-16, 9-9 in CAA) meets #10 Drexel (12-19, 5-13 in CAA), followed by #6 Northeastern (13-16, 9-9 in CAA) versus #11 James Madison (13-16, 5-13 in CAA) at 8:30 p.m.

Quarterfinal action begins at Noon on Saturday, March 8 when top-seeded VCU (23-6, 15-3 in CAA) takes on the Hofstra/Towson winner, followed by #4 Old Dominion (17-14, 11-7 in CAA) against the William & Mary/Georgia State winner at 2:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., second-seeded UNC Wilmington (19-12, 12-6 in CAA) takes on the Delaware/Drexel winner, followed by #3 George Mason (20-10, 12-6 in CAA) versus the Northeastern/JMU winner at 8:30 p.m.

The two semifinal games will be played at 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, with the CAA Championship game set for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10.

All first-round games will be video streamed on www.caasports.com. Quarterfinal and semifinal games will be televised live by CN8 and other CAA television affiliates. The CAA Championship game will be televised by ESPN.
