Jerry Fife Named Football Equipment Manager At ODU

March 6, 2008

Norfolk, Va. - Jerry Fife has been named head equipment manager at Old Dominion University where he will work with the Monarch football program which will begin competing in the fall of 2009.

"I've done almost everything in this industry except start a program from scratch," said Fife. "Joining the staff here at ODU is a great challenge and will give me the opportunity to build a program so that in the future I'll be able to assist other equipment managers who may be in the same position."

No stranger to the Colonial Athletic Association, Fife comes to ODU after having spent the past six years as the head equipment manager at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg. Va. There he was responsible for all of the equipment issues for the Tribe football squad, as well as managing the equipment budget and supervising staff. In addition, Fife developed a computerized inventory program and also created an equipment website. Most recently he was instrumental in the design of the new locker room and equipment room.

Named the District II Equipment Manager of the Year in 2007 by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA), Fife went on to become a finalist for the national award. He helped to rewrite the AEMA certification exam and has chaired the association's National Education Committee since 2002.

Fife is a graduate of Ashland University where he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and sports medicine, before going on to acquire his M.S. Ed. degree in sports education.
