Charlottesville, Va. - The Lady Monarchs' women's tennis team could not get past No. 53 Virginia as ODU fell 5-2 Friday afternoon at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar's Head Sports Club. With the loss the Lady Monarchs fell to 6-4 on the year, while the Cavaliers improved to 5-3.
Charleen Harrhoff and Nadine Fahoum defeated UVA's Amanda Rales and Lara Alexander 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, but the Cavaliers won the No. 2 and No. 3 matches to steal the doubles point.
In singles action the Cavaliers captured four of the six matches with the Lady Monarchs' only victories coming at No. 2 and No. 6. Freshman Nadine Fahoum remained undefeated on the year at 10-0 by defeating Jennifer Stevens in straight sets at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. Jana Kubicikova accounted for ODU's second point by coming from a set down at No. 6 to defeat Cathy Nimitz 6-7, 7-6, 14-12.
The Lady Monarchs return to action Saturday morning at 10 a.m. when they host CAA foe Georgia State.
